Note: This is just a guide on how I prefer to roleplay, not everyone has to follow this. Feel free to critique me in a reply. Also, if you think your a pretty good roleplayer make your own guide here, if I like it I might ask for your permission to sticky it.
Okay first I'm going to use a post in a thread I made called 10 PM. Here I used a character called Mint, who I deleted when I restarted the site.
A small tabby sat on the corner, her long fur fluffed up against the cool twilight's wind. Her pale green eyes were scanning the area for other animals who might disrupt her night.
Her name was Mint, though she truly loathed it. She was a former housecat, turned Darkness deputy. She had lived with her mother's human as a kitten, but soon got tired of being coddled, turning herself into the deceptive cat she was now.
Mint hadn't spoken in her family in a while. Her father, she would sometimes confide in. But her sisters and brother were dead to her, she wouldn't recognize them, even if they standing less than a foot away from her whiskers.
Out of her thoughts, Mint curled her tail around her large paws, letting a breath into the air. She again scanned the area, this time turning her head to the sound of another cat.
So lets start pulling this thing apart shall we?
What I like to do when starting a thread is describe my cat before I give a name. So here she is a tabby. Don't go overboard with the description at first, just something to give an image.
Then I gave the place, time, and a little bit of information on her surrounding. A corner, twilight, and it's cool. Then I said what she was doing, with another piece of her physical description.
I find this is a pattern in a lot of what I post. Personally, I think the most important thing in my first paragraph is to create an image for the reader. Then I'll go into detail.
A few question I ask myself when writing the first paragraph.
Where does this take place?
What is going on?
I don't think the who is important in the first paragraph, maybe even in the second, if you feel there is more to describe.
In the second paragraph I give my cat's name, Mint. I then went on to give a little bit of her history. All the important stuff when creating a base for your characters.
The second question I answer is who?
The third paragraph I wrote is a little more detail. Just a bit of extra information.
In the last paragraph I try to close the post. I tie up the last three paragraphs, and then I give a statement, inviting someone else to join.
Can I understand what's going on?
Will someone else be able to understand what's going on?
Who's POV (Point of View) is this written from?
What's going on?
Where does this take place?
Can someone write two sentences about my character from this? Optional if your writing a long post.
Are there any grammar or spelling errors?
